Women's Tennis Report (Week 2) - Transy Boasts 6-3 Win Over Manchester
GREENWOOD, IN - Transylvania University hit the courts for the first time this fall, earning a 2-0 record to begin the season. The Pioneers (2-0, 1-0 HCAC) won at Thomas More and beat Manchester in the HCAC opener during the week.
Transy's Laila El Dessouki (Cairo, Egypt/German School of Cairo) finished the week 4-0 during the two Pioneer victories.
The freshman earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles and an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles in TU's 6-3 win over Manchester. In Monday's 8-1 win at Thomas More, El Dessouki won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and earned an 8-1 triumph at the top doubles position.
Transylvania is scheduled to face Rose-Hulman this weekend.
In other action...
Preseason HCAC favorite Rose-Hulman (2-0, 1-0 HCAC) won its league opener with a 9-0 sweep of Defiance. The Engineers capped off the week with a 6-3 win over Oakland City.
Hanover and Franklin also notched a win to open the HCAC schedule. The Panthers (2-1, 1-0 HCAC) beat Anderson 7-2, while the defending champion Grizzlies (1-2, 1-0 HCAC) swept Mount St. Joseph 9-0.
