Women's Track & Field Report (Week 2) - Mount Places First at Own Invitational

GREENWOOD, IN - The College of Mount St. Joseph placed first at the Mount St. Joseph Invitational, holding off Division I Xavier by 12 points to earn the title.  The Lions scored 177 points at the meet, while Transylvania University finished fourth in the five-team event.

The Mount won six events at the meet and was led by freshman Katie Jerek (Boardman, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney).  Jerek helped lead the way for MSJ with two first place finishes, capturing the individual title in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes.

Transylvania received a first place finish from freshman Ria Keegan (Covington, Ky./Villa Madonna) in the 400-meter dash, finishing with a time of 1:03.48.

Franklin, Rose-Hulman, and Hanover competed at the Hanover Invitational Saturday.  The Grizzlies placed third among the 10 schools, while Rose and Hanover finished fifth and sixth respectively.

Franklin’s Heather Waterman (Shelbyville, Ind./Morristown) won two events at the meet, breaking Hanover Invitational records in both the 800-meter run (2:20.51) and 1,500-meter run (4:47.93).

Rose-Hulman’s Tanya Colonna (Brecksville, Ohio/H.S.) recorded a Rose-Hulman school record in the women’s pole vault, placing first with a school record leap of 10’ 6” to lead the Engineers at the meet. 

In other action last week, Bluffton University placed 10th out of 12 schools at the Cedarville Invitational.  Defiance and Anderson were also in action, competing at the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational.

This weekend's schedule showcases eight of the nine HCAC institutions.  Franklin has the weekend off before returning to the track on April 9 at the Indiana Little State meet.
