Women's Track & Field Report (Week 3) - Defiance Finishes Second at DC Invite

GREENWOOD, IN - Defiance College placed second at the Defiance Invitational this past weekend, finishing 47 points behind champion Tiffin.  The Jackets scored 157.5 points at the meet, while Bluffton University finished fourth in the six-team event.

Kristin Goldstein (Oak Harbor, Ohio/H.S.) anchored the Yellow Jackets’ sprinters, coming in first in the 100-meter dash (13.71) and fourth in the 200-meter dash (28.40).

In the 400-meter dash, Ashlyn Howell (Fenton, Mich./Lake Fenton) posted a personal-record time of 1:03.76 seconds, giving her one of the single-fastest times in the HCAC this outdoor season.

Bluffton's Megan Neal (Arlington, Ohio/H.S.) placed first in the javelin at the meet, earning the Beavers' only first place finish with a toss of 107' 0".

Manchester and Rose-Hulman competed at the 11-team DePauw Invitational Saturday.  The Engineers finished eighth at the meet, while the Spartans placed 10th.  Manchester's Kailey Honn (Westfield, Ind./H.S.) scored all 10 of Manchester's points with a first place finish in the high jump.  The junior provisionally qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships with a jump of 5' 5". 

Hanover and Transylvania participated at Centre last Saturday.  The Panthers placed sixth among the 12 competing schools, while the Pioneers managed a ninth place finish.

Hanover's Andrea Thomas (Brazil, Ind./Northview) and Rachael Moreland (Lawton, Mich./H.S.) each notched victories to lead Hanover's women's squad.  Thomas sailed 9' 0.25" to win the pole vault, while Moreland won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:45.4.

Transylvania's Ria Keegan (Covington, Ky./Villa Madonna) set the top time in the HCAC this outdoor season in the 400-meter dash.  The freshman finished seventh at the meet with a time of 1:02.94.

In other action last week, Anderson University placed fifth out of six schools at the Anderson Invitational.  Mount St. Joseph was also in action, competing at the University of Cincinnati Invitational.

This weekend's schedule showcases eight of the nine HCAC institutions.  Mount St. Joseph has the weekend off before returning to the track on April 17 at the All-Ohio Championships.
