Women's Indoor T&F Report (Week 3) - Manchester Leads HCAC Field at Anderson

GREENWOOD, IN - The Manchester women's track and field team earned a second place finish among seven competing schools at the Anderson Indoor Invitational Saturday.  The meet featured five HCAC squads, including Hanover, Anderson, Earlham, and Transylvania.

The Spartans received six first place finishes at the meet. Courtney Hall (Bringhurst, Ind./Carroll) led the competitors in the weight throw (39' 2.25"), while Emily Ballinger (Delaware, Ohio/Rutherford B. Hayes) won the pole vault (9' .25"), Casey Loshe (Decatur, Ind./Adams Central) the high jump (5' 1.75'), Jessi Bremer (Howe, Ind./Prairie Heights) the mile run (5:10), Liz Curtis (Parker City, Ind./Monroe Central) the 400 meter dash (1:04), and the women's 4x400 team.

Hanover College placed third at the meet.  Senior Shawna McLetchie (Lexington, Ky./Catholic), junior Rachael Moreland (Lawton, Mich./H.S.), freshman Cary Menifee (Newberry, Fla./H.S.), and freshman Hilary Tollefson (Playmouth, Minn./Orono) posted a time of 13:45.75 to win the women’s distance medley relay.

Anderson (4th place), Earlham (5th), and Transylvania (6th) rounded out the HCAC finishers.

Rose-Hulman and Franklin each placed fifth at the DePauw Indoor Invitational Saturday.  The Engineers posted three new school records at the meet.

Sophomore Creasy Clauser (Crawfordsville, Ind./Southmont) set a new mark with a time of 1:00.78 in the 400-meter dash, while sophomore Tanya Colonna (Brecksville, Ohio/H.S.) broke the record in the pole vault with a leap of 10' 6".  The women's 4 X 400 meter relay team set the final school record of the day with a time of 4:13.16.

Sophomore Liz Evans (Bicknell, Ind./North Knox) reached the NCAA Division III automatic qualifying mark for the third time this season with a high jump mark of 5' 7.25", defeating a field of 21 athletes which included NCAA Division I athletes.

Defiance and Bluffton were also in action at the Ohio Northern Polar Bear Invitational.  The Jackets claimed a third place finish, while the Beavers placed fifth at the five team event.

This weekend's schedule is the final tune-up prior to the HCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on February 19 at Anderson University.  All ten schools will hit the track in preparation for next weekend's inaugural event.
