Women's Indoor T&F Report (Week 2) - Defiance Places 2nd at Trine Invite
GREENWOOD, IN - The Defiance College women’s track and field team earned 140 points at the Trine Invitational last Friday, placing second in the eight-team field. Katie Heitkamp (St. Marys, Ohio/St. Marys Memorial) cleared 2.90 meters in the pole vault, tying Emily Cole and Kaitlyn Sandercock at the top of Defiance’s all-time record book.
Heitkamp added a half-inch onto the personal-best mark she set last week, and will need to add just another quarter-inch to claim DC’s individual pole vaulting title outright.
Sophomore Ashlyn Howell (Fenton, Mich./Lake Fenton) had a nice meet for DC in the jumping events, clearing 9.81 meters to claim first place in the triple jump, and finishing second in the long jump with a leap of 4.59 meters.
Four HCAC schools competed in Terre Haute at the Rose-Hulman Indoor Invitational. The host Engineers placed sixth at the 12 team meet, while Earlham (7th), Franklin (9th), and Mount St. Joseph (12th) rounded out the conference competitors.
Rose-Hulman's Liz Evans (Bicknell, Ind./North Knox) added to her national-best women's high jump mark with a leap of 1.72 meters (5' 7.75"), placing first at the meet.
Franklin was led by senior Heather Waterman (Shelbyville, Ind./Morristown) who placed first in the mile run with a time of 5:11.91.
Anderson and Bluffton were also in action last week. The Ravens competed at Indiana Wesleyan, while Bluffton traveled to Findlay. Anderson placed eighth among eight schools and Bluffton did not post a team score.
This weekend's schedule showcases all ten HCAC institutions. Anderson will host Earlham, Hanover, and Transylvania at the AU Indoor Invitational Saturday.
