Women's Outdoor T&F Report (Week 1) - DC Dominates Dick Small Invitational
GREENWOOD, IN - Defiance College played host to the six-team Dick Small Invitational this past weekend. DC dominated the event, claiming 222 points to lead the field. Bluffton University also participated and placed third overall.
DC's Katie Heitkamp (St. Marys, Ohio/Memorial) recorded three first-place performances at the meet, taking top honors in the pole vault, long jump, and in the 1,600-meter relay. Heitkamp’s mark of 9' 6.25" in the pole vault is a personal best for the sophomore.
Ashlyn Howell (Fenton, Mich./Lake Fenton) added a first place showing in the triple jump with a leap of 31' 1.25".
Junior Marlea Rolander (Napoleon, Ohio/H.S.) posted a pair of first place finishes at the meet, claiming the top spot in the 100-meter and 400-meter dashes.
Franklin College opened its 2011 outdoor season, finishing second to Marian in the Huntsman Relays at Wabash College. Sophomore Kerri Kinker (Greensburg, Ind./Batesville) won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.52 and senior Jennifer Kelly (Rossville, Ind./H.S.) was first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 12:51.12.
Rose-Hulman was in action at the Rose-Hulman Early Bird Meet over the weekend. Liz Evans (Bicknell, Ind./North Knox) provisionally qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the high jump, clearing 5' 5" for a first place finish. Evans also set a new school record in the long jump, placing first with a leap of 17’ 1.25”.
In other action over the weekend, Hanover competed at Rose-Hulman while Mount St. Joseph placed 12th overall at the University of Cincinnati Relays.
This weekend all 10 HCAC schools will be in action, including five participating at the Hanover Invitational Saturday afternoon.
