GREENWOOD, IN - Defiance College earned a victory last week, placing first overall at the Denison Indoor Invitational. The Yellow Jackets held off Wittenberg, Denison, and Transylvania at the four team event.
Defiance junior pole vaulter Katie Heitkamp (St. Marys, Ohio/Memorial) placed first in the pole vault, breaking the DC record with a height of 10' 2.75". The mark is also the best in the HCAC this season by 8.5".
In other events Heitkamp placed second in the 400-meter dash and ran the fastest split for the second ranked HCAC 4x400 meter relay team which won the event.
Rose-Hulman and Mount St. Joseph competed in Terre Haute at the Rose-Hulman Indoor Invitational Saturday. The Engineers finished seventh among 10 schools, while the Lions placed ninth.
Rose’s Creasy Clauser (Crawfordsville, Ind./Southmont) established a new school record in the 400-meter dash with a second-place time of 1:00.22.
Liz Evans (Bicknell, Ind./North Knox) tied her career-best mark in the high jump at the meet. The junior won the event with a leap of 5’ 10” and currently ranks No. 2 nationally in NCAA Division III this indoor season. The mark also stands in the all-time top five in NCAA Division III.
This weekend's schedule showcases all 10 HCAC institutions. Franklin, Mount St. Joseph, and Rose-Hulman will compete at DePauw Friday evening, while Anderson will host Earlham, Hanover, Manchester, and Transylvania Saturday. Bluffton and Defiance will also be in action Saturday at Ohio Northern.
