Defiance College Captures First HCAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Crown

ANDERSON, IN – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men’s and Defiance College women’s track and field team earned titles at the fourth annual Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships held at Anderson University on February 22.  The Engineers men scored 200.5 points in the 17 events to hold off Franklin’s 113 point effort to claim their fourth straight HCAC men’s indoor track title.  The Defiance women’s track team earned their first indoor title, holding off two-time defending champion Hanover by 14 points.

The Defiance women’s team won five different events, tallying 149 points.  Freshman Micah Wilson (Mims, Fla./Astronaut) set a HCAC indoor meet record in the 60-meter dash with a winning time of 7.87 seconds and freshman Sam Cook (Raiford, Fla./Bradford Co.) earned a new conference record in the shot put (12.39 meters). The Defiance 800 and 1,600-meter relay teams were the fastest at the meet, setting new conference records in each event.

Hanover placed second in the women’s team standings with 135 points, while Anderson placed third with 100 points. Franklin finished fourth with 81 points and was followed by Manchester (77 points), Transylvania (40), Rose-Hulman (38), Bluffton (32), Earlham (9), and Mount St. Joseph (No Team Score).
