Rose-Hulman Selected to Win HCAC Women's Outdoor T&F Title

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology's women's track and field team has been selected to win the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference outdoor championship. In a poll of the ten HCAC head coaches, the Fightin' Engineers received 98 total points and eight first place votes.

Hanover College will look to claim the school's fifth outdoor championship, as the Panthers totaled a second-best 86 points and one first place vote. Manchester University placed third in the poll with 79 points and the final first place vote, while Earlham College earned 73 points. Bluffton University was selected to finish fifth with 59 points and was followed by Transylvania University (49 points), Mount St. Joseph University (33), Anderson University (31), Defiance College (21) and Franklin College (21).

Rose-Hulman enters the outdoor season after earning the school's third HCAC Indoor Championship in February. The Fightin' Engineers placed first at the outdoor championship meet last April, and will look for the school's second straight outdoor title this season. Rose-Hulman returns four All-HCAC honorees from last year's squad to help the Engineers contend for the 2019 outdoor title. Senior Lauren London is coming off a stellar indoor campaign after earning Most Outstanding Track & Field Athlete of the Year at the meet in February. The senior multi athlete was a first team All-HCAC selection a year ago after claiming victories in the 100-meter hurdles, long jump and was a member of the 400-meter relay team.

Also returning as Rose-Hulman first team All-HCAC selections from the 2018 outdoor season is junior Adekite Oladipupo and sophomores Clare Bruns and Lois Cheatham. Oladipupo joined London on the winning 400-meter relay team while also garnering first place in the 100-meter dash at last year's outdoor championship. Bruns and Cheatham earned first team all-conference honors after serving as members on the victorious 1,600-meter relay team a year ago.

Hanover looks to claim the school's fifth outdoor championship after a second place finish at the HCAC Indoor Championships in February. The Panthers return two All-HCAC honorees from last season's team. Juniors Kenna Hunter and Eve Galbreath earned first team accolades during the 2018 outdoor championships after claiming first place in the 400-meter hurdles and the shot put, respectively.

The Manchester Spartans will fight for the school's fifth outdoor title after earning their third straight in 2017. Returning for the Spartans is the reigning Outdoor Most Outstanding Female Track Athlete, Hannah Wappes. The junior claimed first place in the 800-meter and 1,500-meter run a year ago at the conference outdoor event. Also claiming a spot on the first team All-HCAC during the 2018 season is senior Jacey Cauhorn. The thrower tossed a discus long enough to claim first place at the outdoor championships last spring.

The 2019 HCAC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships are set for Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27 at Mount St. Joseph University.

The 2019 women's outdoor track and field season gets underway this weekend.
