Release courtesy of Mount St. Joseph
CINCINNATI, OH - The American Volleyball
Coaches Association (AVCA) is proud to announce the College of
Mount St. Joseph volleyball team as the second annual Volleyball
Market/AVCA Play of the Year winner, as a part of the Volleyball
Market/AVCA Play of the Week program.
The play, which can be viewed on the AVCA's
YouTube channel, was one of 11 weekly finalists that were
eligible for the Volleyball Market/AVCA Play of the Year, which was
announced at the AVCA All-America/Players of the Year Banquet
presented by Zamst this evening, at the AVCA Convention in Kansas
City, Mo.
Several thousand votes were cast to determine the winner, with the
Lions beating out Bluffton University, Cal State L.A., Ferris
State University, Metropolitan State University, Mississippi State
University, University of North Carolina, Sam Houston State
University, Texas Christian University, Texas State University and
Tufts University during the designated voting period.
The award-winning play came during Mount St. Joseph's away match
against Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) foe
Transylvania University on November 7. The 28-second play is
highlighted by an incredible pancake save by the Lions'
own Michelle Woods. The rally began with a
short tip from Transylvania where Woods ran from the previous play
to save the tip with a dive and pancake pass to
libero, Jaclyn Stenger, who sent the ball
back over to Pioneers. Transylvania sent the ball back to the Lions
where the ball was set up and killed by setter Lyndsey
Waldman. Mount St. Joseph went on to win the match
3-2, capturing the HCAC tournament championship.
