Volleyball Report (Week 4) - Mount Claims HCAC/OAC Challenge Title

GREENWOOD, IN - The College of Mount St. Joseph completed a solid weekend of play by going 4-0 at the Charlie Wrublewski HCAC/OAC Challenge held at MSJ. The Mount defeated Baldwin-Wallace and Capital during the first day of play and then ran their win streak to five on Saturday by defeating Muskingum and No. 18 Ohio Northern.

Mount St. Joseph began the week with an important conference win over preseason favorite Bluffton, beating the Beavers 3-2. 

Senior Jamie Grauvogel (Cleves, Ohio/Harrison) led the Lions effort during the week of play, earning the HCAC Player of the Week award.  The senior outside hitter totaled 106 kills, 69 digs, 11 blocks, six aces, and three assists during the week.  Grauvogel had 29 kills in MSJ’s five-game match against Bluffton and then added 19 kills and 12 digs in a 3-2 win over Ohio Northern, earning a spot on the All-Tournament team.

Transylvania finished second at the HCAC/OAC challenge, finishing the weekend with a 3-1 record.  The Pioneers opened the weekend with a 3-2 loss to No. 18 Ohio Northern and ran off three wins over Muskingum, Baldwin-Wallace, and Capital to close the tournament.

Senior Jordan Geisen (Florence, Ky./St. Henry) led the Pioneers over the weekend, tallying 61 kills and a .328 attack percentage.

Hanover placed third at the event, helping the HCAC claim the top three positions over the Ohio Athletic Conference.  The Panthers fell 3-2 to Capital and Baldwin-Wallace on Friday before rallying to beat No. 18 Ohio Northern and Muskingum on Saturday. 

Junior outside hitter Abby Merritt (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) was named to the All-Tournament team at the event.  Merritt totaled 76 kills, 60 digs, and four aces during the week, which included a conference opening win over Earlham Wednesday evening.

In other conference action last week...Manchester moved to 1-0 in league play with a 3-2 win over Defiance, while Anderson opened the conference schedule with a 3-1 win over Franklin.
