Volleyball Report (Week 6) - RHIT Improves to 4-1 in League Play
GREENWOOD, IN - Rose-Hulman took care of business during the week and notched a pair of league wins. The Engineers (14-6, 4-1 HCAC) earned a 3-2 win at home over Hanover and a 3-1 win against Manchester in Terre Haute. Rose sits alongside Mount St. Joseph in second place with 4-1 marks.
Senior Leah Pelzel (Loveland, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) led the Engineers during the week, contributing 59 assists, 31 digs, and six service aces. Pelzel added 19 kills at a .436 hitting percentage and recorded a triple-double with 10 kills, 28 assists, and 13 digs against Manchester.
Mount St. Joseph (8-14, 4-1 HCAC) fell into a second place tie with Rose after splitting a pair of HCAC tilts during the week. The Lions fell at Hanover 3-1 Wednesday night and rebounded to defeat Defiance on the road 3-1 over the weekend.
Transylvania (14-8, 3-0 HCAC) remains the only unblemished squad in conference play. The Pioneers took care of business with a 3-0 sweep of Anderson Saturday afternoon. TU also played a pair of non-league games during the week, posting a 3-0 win over Centre and a 3-1 loss to Illinois Wesleyan.
Sophomore middle blocker Meghan Bowers (Louisville, Ky./Presentation) led the effort with 32 kills and a .324 hitting percentage during the week.
Bluffton and Defiance now stand 3-1 in league play after their action over the past week.
The Beavers (14-8, 3-1 HCAC) earned a 3-0 sweep of Earlham and Mount Union at home Saturday. BU dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 8 Heidelberg on the road earlier in the week.
Defiance (12-10, 3-1 HCAC) dropped its first league contest of the season on Saturday, falling at home to Mount St. Joseph 3-1. It was the Jackets only match of the week.
