GREENWOOD, IN - Bluffton University was hot over the weekend, posting a 4-0 mark at the OAC/HCAC Challenge to earn the title. The Beavers defeated Muskingum, Capital, Baldwin-Wallace and host Ohio Northern to capture the title.
Bluffton (10-7, 0-1 HCAC) swept Muskingum, Capital, and Ohio Northern and came from behind to defeat Baldwin-Wallace 3-2.
Earlier in the week, the Beavers dropped a 3-2 decision to Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati as both schools opened HCAC play.
Bluffton's Jenna Eshleman (Landisville, Penn./Hempfield) reached a career milestone over the weekend. The senior outside hitter pounded her 1,000th career kill in Bluffton's win over Muskingum Friday and was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts.
Eshleman tallied 64 kills and hit .240 for the week, while adding 70 digs, four block assists, and seven service aces.
Mount St. Joseph, Transylvania, and Hanover also took part in the OAC/HCAC Challenge in Ada, Ohio.
The Lions (5-12, 1-0 HCAC) finished 2-2 at the tournament, earning wins over Muskingum and Ohio Northern. Hanover (10-6, 1-0 HCAC) also went 2-2 in Ohio, while Transylvania (10-6, 0-0 HCAC) posted a 3-1 mark to place second.
Hanover's Abbey Merritt (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North), Mount's Kat Roedig (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley), and Transylvania's Meghan Bowers (Louisville, Ky./Presentation) joined Eshleman on the All-Tournament team.
The HCAC schedule picks up this week as 10 league matches will be played.
