GREENWOOD, IN - Defiance College continued its hot play with a 3-0 record last week. The Yellow Jackets (16-5, 3-0 HCAC) won a pair of road league games over Earlham and Transylvania, while also earning a non-league win over Washington & Lee.
Defiance junior Alicia Kalik (South Lyon, Mich./H.S.) paced the DC offense during the three victories. Kalik accounted for 26 assists and six digs in a 3-0 sweep of Earlham, but really came to play on Saturday as the setter put together a pair of great outings that surpassed 2,500 career assists.
The junior racked up 39 assists with 10 digs, two block assists, and a service ace in a 3-1 win at Transylvania Saturday. She followed that effort with 49 assists and 16 digs in a 3-1 non-league win over Washington & Lee.
The current HCAC leader in assists now sits at 2,545 assists for her Defiance career and is only 124 away from breaking the school record.
Defiance is currently the only unbeaten squad in league play and will host Manchester and Franklin in league play this week.
In other action...
Mount St. Joseph (11-13, 3-1 HCAC) moved up the standings with two league wins. The Lions were impressive at home, beating Bluffton 3-1 and Manchester 3-0. Senior Hannah Vanarsdall (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) totaled 12 kills and 13 digs against Bluffton and added eight kills with nine digs in the win over Manchester.
Transylvania earned a split in league play last week and currently occupies the second spot in the standings. The Pioneers (15-10, 4-1 HCAC) kicked off the week with a 3-0 sweep of Hanover, but concluded with a pair of losses to Defiance and Washington & Lee.
