GREENWOOD, IN - The Defiance College volleyball team came away with two huge victories on Saturday as the Jackets conquered Mount St. Joseph in four sets and then silenced the Trine Thunder in the second match 3-1.
The win over MSJ ended a 10-match losing streak to the Lions.
Defiance College's Chelsea Ludeman (Napoleon, Ohio/H.S) led the Jackets during the two victories. In DC's 3-1 win over MSJ, Ludeman notched a team-high 19 kills with 14 digs and a .382 hitting percentage.
Ludeman followed that effort with 20 kills, 12 digs, and a .486 hitting percentage in a 3-1 win over Trine.
Sophomore Rebecca Kain (Orland, Ind./Prairie Heights) led the defense with a team-high 18 digs in each contest.
Defiance (13-5, 1-0 HCAC) will travel to Earlham and Transylvania in league play this week.
In other action...
Transylvania University remained perfect in league play with a pair of road wins. The Pioneers (14-8, 3-0 HCAC) beat Anderson 3-1 and swept Manchester 3-0 over the weekend.
Sophomore outside hitter Erin Romito (Edgewood, Ky./Scott) paced the Pioneers offense in both wins, tallying 13 kills against Anderson and 10 kills versus Manchester. Romito had an impressive .769 hitting percentage against Manchester.
Franklin also remains perfect in HCAC action this fall, standing 2-0 in league play. The Grizzlies (13-6, 2-0 HCAC) swept Earlham and earned a pair of wins over St. Mary's and Albion over the weekend. The three wins ran the win streak to six straight for the blue and gold.
Sophomore Mackenzie Wieneke (Seymour, Ind./H.S.) totaled 68 digs over the three matches, including a season-high 32 digs in a four set win over Albion Saturday. Wieneke added 16 digs in a win over St. Mary's College and posted 20 digs in a sweep of Earlham in conference play Wednesday evening.
