GREENWOOD, IN - Transylvania University finished the week with a 3-1 record at the Wisconsin-Whitewater Invitational over the weekend. The Pioneers earned a 3-1 win over No. 13 ranked Wis.-Whitewater, while also earning wins over Wis.-Oshkosh and Wheaton.
Senior Meghan Bowers (Louisville, Ky./Presentation) was an offensive force for the Pioneers up north. In four matches, Bowers totaled 48 kills, two aces, 15 digs, while posting a .336 hitting percentage.
Senior Melissa Sexton (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) had a huge defensive performance in the first match against Wis.-Oshkosh Friday, tallying 29 digs, three aces, and eight kills. Over the course of the four matches, Sexton notched 69 digs, eight aces, and 14 kills, including 10 digs in the win over No. 13 ranked Wis.-Whitewater.
Transy's lone loss over the weekend was a 3-0 setback against Carthage.
The Pioneers stand 3-1 on the young season and will travel to the Marietta Invitational over the weekend.
In other action...
Defiance got off to a 3-1 start after competing at the Capital/Otterbein Tournament. The Jackets earned wins over Capital, Denison, and Kenyon, while falling 3-2 to Otterbein.
Senior outside hitter Chelsea Ludeman (Napoleon, Ohio/H.S.) earned All-Tournament team honors, totaling 85 kills (4.72 p/set) in four matches. Ludeman also tallied a .328 hitting percentage over the weekend, while chipping in with 22 total blocks.
Defiance (3-1, 0-0 HCAC) will host Northwestern Ohio on Wednesday before heading to the Rose-Hulman Invitational over the weekend.
