Hanover College’s Courtney Crawford Named HCAC Volleyball MVP

GREENWOOD, IN – Hanover College’s Courtney Crawford (Louisville, Ky./Our Lady of Mercy) has been selected as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference volleyball Most Valuable Player.  Crawford helped guide the Panthers to the school’s first HCAC title since 2011, finishing the conference season a perfect 9-0.

Transylvania University’s Audrey Brown (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) has been honored as the Defensive Most Valuable Player, Bluffton University’s Erin Weisgarber (Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) claimed the HCAC Freshman of the Year, and Hanover head coach Peter Preocanin picked up his third HCAC Coach of Year Award.

Crawford played in 113 sets for the Panthers this season, posting a conference-best .354 hitting percentage with a league-high 131 total blocks.  The sophomore averaged 1.85 kills per set and 2.8 points per set during Hanover’s 32 matches. The Louisville, Kentucky native led the conference with a .467 hitting percentage and 54 total blocks during HCAC matches this season.

Brown, the Pioneers’ senior defensive specialist, was the backbone of the Transylvania defense all season.  The senior ranked second in the conference with a 6.32 digs per set average during conference play and posted a 5.53 average in all contests (4th in HCAC).  During Transy’s 26 matches, Brown totaled 498 digs on the year to earn Defensive MVP honors.

Bluffton’s Erin Weisgarber averaged a conference-high 10.49 assists per set in her first collegiate season.  The freshman averaged an HCAC-best 11.13 assists per set in conference play to earn Freshman of the Year accolades.

Preocanin guided Hanover to the school’s first HCAC title since 2011 and finished the conference season with a perfect 9-0 record.   It is the third HCAC Coach of the Year honor for Preocanin during his tenure as head coach at Hanover College.

Joining Crawford as a member of the All-HCAC squad are Bluffton University’s Jenny Brown (Sr., St. Marys, Ohio), Kendra Parmenter (Sr., Grove City, Ohio), and Mackenzie McFarlin (Jr., Ashland, Ohio), Defiance College’s Meredith Shank (So., Maumee, Ohio), Franklin College’s Mackenzie Wieneke (Sr., Seymour, Ind.), Amanda Lelivelt (So., Chippewa Falls, Wis.), and Kourtney Settle (Sr., Vallonia, Ind.), Hanover College’s Maddie Hartman (Sr., Madison, Ind.), Kelsey Brandvik (So., Indianapolis, Ind.), and Rachel Hasewinkel (Sr., Sheridan, Ind.), Mount St. Joseph’s Jessica Wilgenbusch (Jr., Sunman, Ind.), Rose-Hulman’s Gabi Razma (So., Durango, Colo.), and Transylvania University’s Erin Romito (Sr., Edgewood, Ky.).

All teams are voted and selected by the 10 conference head coaches.
