HANOVER, IN – The Bluffton University volleyball team earned their third-straight HCAC tournament title, defeating No. 1 seed Hanover, 25-18, 25-23, 25-23, on Sunday afternoon. The No. 2 seed Beavers (19-12) will advance to the NCAA Division III tournament by virtue of claiming the conference’s automatic bid.
Against the Panthers, seniors Jenny Brown (St Marys, Ohio/Memorial) and Kendra Parmenter (Grove City, Ohio/H.S.) led the way with 10 kills and 11 kills. Freshman setter Erin Weisgarber (Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) added 39 assists in the title match.
Bluffton advanced to Sunday’s championship match by defeating No. 3 seed Defiance 3-1 in the semifinals Saturday evening.
Brown was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player after a pair of strong performances during the weekend. Joining her on the All-Tournament Team from the Beavers was Kendra Parmenter and Erin Weisgarber.
The remaining members of the all-tournament team consisted of Hanover’s Maddie Hartman (Madison, Ind./H.S.) and Rachel Hasewinkel (Sheridan, Ind./Zionsville), Defiance’s Rebecca Kain (Orland, Ind./Prairie Heights), and Franklin’s Ashley Bazier (Terre Haute, Ind./South).
Bluffton will take part in regional play on November 13-15. The Beavers will find out their site and opponent Monday morning when the NCAA releases their brackets at 11:00 AM.
