HANOVER, Ind. – The Bluffton University volleyball team earned their fourth-straight HCAC tournament title, defeating No. 1 seed Hanover, 25-23, 23-25, 25-23, 25-17 on Sunday afternoon. The No. 2 seed Beavers (23-8) will advance to the NCAA Division III tournament by virtue of claiming the conference's automatic bid.
Against the Panthers, seniors Lauren Weisgarber (Bolivar, Ohio / Tuscarawas Valley) and MacKenzie McFarlin (Ashland, Ohio / Ashland) led the way with 24 kills and 12 kills. Sophomore setter Erin Weisgarber (Bolivar, Ohio / Tuscarawas Valley) added 46 assists in the title match.
Bluffton advanced to Sunday's championship match by defeating No. 3 seed Rose-Hulman 3-2 in the semifinals Saturday evening.
Lauren Weisgarber was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after a pair of strong performances during the weekend. Joining her on the All-Tournament Team from the Beavers was MacKenzie McFarlin and Sydney Mohler.
The remaining members of the all-tournament team consisted of Hanover's Kelsey Brandvik (Indianapolis, Ind. / Lawrence North) and Kristin Goben (Louisville, Ky. / Suda E. Butler Traditonal), and Rose-Hulman's Bailey MacInnis (Boulder, Colo. / Fairview) and Marissa Gollnick (Elk Grove, Calif. / St. Francis).
Bluffton will take part in regional play on November 11-13. The Beavers will find out their site and opponent Monday morning when the NCAA releases their brackets at 11 a.m.
