Hanover College Set to Host HCAC Volleyball Tournament

GREENWOOD, Ind. --- The 2017 HCAC volleyball tournament will be held this week, November 1, 4-5.  Wednesday's opening round games will be played on the campus of the high seed, while the semifinals and championship will be played at Hanover College.  The Panthers claimed the school's fifth HCAC volleyball crown and earned the right to host the tournament. 

Hanover finished the season 24-5 overall and 9-0 in conference play, winning all 10 of their last 10 matches to end the season.  Rose-Hulman (19-11, 7-2 HCAC) earned the No. 2 seed in the tournament, finishing two games behind champion Hanover.  Hanover and Rose-Hulman earned a first-round bye after earning the top two seeds in the tournament and will play separate semifinal matches Saturday afternoon.

Action will get underway Wednesday evening as Defiance (10-12, 5-4 HCAC) earned the No. 5 seed and will face No. 4 Bluffton (18-10, 7-2 HCAC).  The Beavers beat the Yellow Jackets 3-0 on October 11 in conference play.  Defiance went 6-4 down the stretch, while Bluffton finished the season 9-1. The winner will advance on to play Hanover at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon at Hanover.  The Panthers swept both Defiance and Bluffton during the regular season.

Mount St. Joseph (13-13, 3-6 HCAC), the No. 6 seed in the tourney, will take on No. 3 Transylvania (19-9, 7-2 HCAC) in the second opening round game Wednesday.  Back on October 25, Transylvania defeated the Lions 3-0 at home.  Transylvania went 8-2 in the last 10 matches, while Mount St. Joseph finished the season 3-7.   Rose-Hulman will play the victor between the Pioneers and Lions Saturday afternoon.  The Fighitn' Engineers defeated both teams 3-1 during conference play.

The championship match will be held on Sunday, November 5 at 1 p.m.  The tournament champion will earn the HCAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament that is slated to begin on Friday, November 10.

First Round - Wednesday, Nov. 1 (at high seed)
Game 1: #6 Mount St. Joseph at #3 Transylvania -  7 p.m.
Game 2: #5 Defiance at #4 Bluffton -  7 p.m.

Semifinals - Saturday, Nov. 4 (at Hanover)
Game 3: #1 Hanover vs. #4/5 winner -  2 p.m.
Game 4: #2 Rose-Hulman vs. #3/6 winner -  5 p.m.

Championship - Sunday, Nov. 5 (at Hanover)
Game 3 winner vs. Game 4 winner  -  1 p.m.
