Manchester Women Post First HCAC Cross Country Title
CINCINNATI, OH - Manchester College's women's cross country team picked up its first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championship on October 31 at the College of Mount St. Joseph. The Spartans posted a score of 38 to hold off defending champion Franklin (44 pts) in the team standings. Four Manchester runners finished in the top twelve individually to help pace the team.
Leading the way for the Spartans was junior Jessica Bremer (Howe, Ind.). Bremer finished third, finishing the 6K course in a time of 24:02. Franklin's Heather Waterman (Shelbyville, Ind.) won the meet in a time of 23:29, finishing 17 seconds faster than Rose-Hulman's Melissa Rogers (Crawfordsville, Ind.). Waterman was named HCAC Most Valuable Player for her efforts.
Rose-Hulman's Creasy Clauser (Crawfordsville, Ind.) was named Freshman of the Year after finishing fourth with a time of 24:06.
Rose-Hulman placed third as a team with a score of 70 and was followed by Hanover (114), Anderson (117), Defiance (155), Transylvania (161), Bluffton (219), and Mount St. Joseph (274).
Waterman, Rogers, Bremer, and Clauser were all recognized as All-HCAC. The recognition is given to the top 12 finishers. Joining the group were Manchester's Megan Miller (Goshen, Ind.), Ashley Kopla (Valparaiso, Ind.), and Tiffany Alva (Medaryville, Ind.), Franklin's Kristi Brown (Muncie, Ind.), Holly Hatch (Crawfordsville, Ind.), and Shannon Egold (Cloverdale, Ind.), Anderson's Erica Moffitt (Wauconda, Ill.), and Hanover's Sarah Lucas (Avon, Ind.).
Manchester head coach Brian Cashdollar was named HCAC Coach of the Year for his efforts in leading Manchester to the women's title.
