Women's Cross Country Report (Week 2) - Manchester Places Fourth at Mel Brodt Invite
GREENWOOD, IN - Manchester College's women's cross country team finished fourth at the highly competitive Mel Brodt Invitational, hosted by Bowling Green. The Spartans finished behind Baldwin-Wallace, Ohio Northern, and Wilmington at the event.
Junior Jessica Bremer (Howe, Ind./Prairie Heights) led the Spartans with a fifth place finish, posting a time of 19:19.5 on the 5K course.
Manchester finished 10th overall among school's competeting at the Division I, II, and III levels. Bremer placed 26th out of 153 competitors.
Franklin earned a second place finish at the three-squad Hanover Invitational this past weekend. The Grizzlies beat rival Hanover at the event and finished behind Division II member University of Indianapolis. Junior runner Heather Waterman (Shelbyville, Ind./Morristown) followed her victory at the Grizzly Invitational with a second place finish at Hanover. Waterman finished 16 seconds behind the champion with a time of 19:49. Shawna McLetchie (Lexington, Ky./Catholic) led Hanover with a ninth place finish (21:14).
Defiance and Bluffton competed at the Defiance Invitational on Saturday morning. The Yellow Jackets placed third in the event, while the Beavers finished fourth out of the four competing institutions. Kaitlin Switzer (Defiance, Ohio/H.S.) and Kaye Brockbrader (Bloomdale, Ohio/Elmwood) each finished in the top five at the event for Defiance. Switzer placed third with a time of 20:42, while Brockbrader finished fifth (21:08).
Transylvania and Mount St. Joseph competed at the Queen City Invitational in Cincinnati. The Pioneers posted a sixth place finish, while the Lions earned an eight place spot.
This weekend's schedule is highlighted by the Indiana Intercollegiates meet on Friday afternoon. Anderson, Franklin, Hanover, Manchester, and Rose-Hulman will all compete in Terre Haute among the state's best.
In other action, Mount St. Joseph heads to Notre Dame for the National Catholic Invitational, Bluffton and Defiance run to Cedarville, and Transylvania travels to Berea.
